Deeds Not Words

An installation at the Anglican chapel in Nunhead cemetery, curated by Jolanta Jagiello , marking the centenary of the granting of votes to (some) women and of the suffragette movement. My installation was a collection of blueprints , inventions by women that had been overlooked, ignored or dismissed , rolled up in flower vases and topped off by a purple rubber glove .

Emily Canham from Highbury first addressed the issue of blinding light from oncoming car headlights in 1908 and went on to invent the dipped headlight. Other blueprints included the dishwasher, windshield wipers, pneumatic beds and Kevlar.
